City socialite and music promoter Charles Olim aka Sipapa was recently arrested and detained at the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police station located in Kireka, Wakiso district.
The clear reason for his arrest is not yet known but according to sources, it is said that he was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm.
Sipapa was arrested last week from a hotel in Makindye division, Kampala and was driven away in a police vehicle that was waiting outside the hotel.
He was first detained at Kira Road police Station and then taken to Makindye military barracks before being transferred to Kireka up to today.
His house was searched by police detectives as they were trying to gather evidence to pin him over his arrest although they didn’t find anything.
His family and lawyers are working tooth and nail to have him released on police bond.
Meanwhile, last year, Sipapa was involved in a battle with former Presidential candidate Bobi Wine’s supporters during the campaigns for the recently concluded general elections where he campaigned and supported President Museveni.
During his mobilization tour in Kamwokya near Bobi Wine’s office, his body guards fired bullets to disperse Bobi’s supporters who had come to attack him for campaigning near their leader.
Events promoter Andrew Mukasa alias Bajjo and Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex accused Sipapa of orchestrating attacks on them by hooligans armed with machetes.
However, Sipapa refuted all their allegations and reports on social media that he was a criminal.
“I came to Kampala look for money and God blessed me with it. Some of my haters have accused me of breaking into people’s homes to steal TV sets which I find absurd and ironical. How can I be involved in pet theft yet I drive Shs400 million Range rover and a fleet of other expensive luxury vehicles,” he said.
